Composting Fruit and Vegetable Waste Using Black Soldier Fly Larvae

چکیده
In recent years, the amount of solid waste generated has been increasing, and larger land space is needed for disposal waste. One ways to deal with limited landfill by composting organic using black soldier fly larvae. This study aims determine percentage BSFL growth assess effectiveness in fruits, boiled vegetables, raw vegetables. The used this was collected from college cafeteria sorted into three categories, 100g each category placed different containers. Two sets experiments were carried out an initial weight 2g 4g BSFL. Within 17-days experiment, composted measured every or four days, also additional new added containers until reached a total 500g. fed fruit highest 1700% relative their 2g. higher density showed lower 1200%. Fruit reduction 57%. proven that more suitable medium larval compared vegetable use effective method reducing wastes disposed landfills.

Dosage-mortality regressions were determined for black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L.), larvae fed cyromazine or pyriproxifen treated media. Cyromazine LC50 for larvae dying before becoming prepupae ranged from 0.25 to 0.28 ppm with dosage-mortality regression slopes between 5.79 and 12.04. Cyromazine LC50s for larvae dying before emergence ranged from 0.13 to 0.19 ppm with dosage-mortality...
متن کاملModulation of nutrient composition of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae by feeding seaweed-enriched media
Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae are a promising source of protein and lipid for animal feeds. The nutritional composition of the BSF larvae depend partly on the composition of the feeding medium. The BSF lipid profile in part mimics the feeding media lipid profile, and micronutrients, like minerals and vitamins, can readily accumulate in black soldier fly larvae. However, investiga...
متن کاملFate of pharmaceuticals and pesticides in fly larvae composting.
A novel and efficient organic waste management strategy currently gaining great attention is fly larvae composting. High resource recovery efficiency can be achieved in this closed-looped system, but pharmaceuticals and pesticides in waste could potentially accumulate in every loop of the treatment system and spread to the environment. This study evaluated the fate of three pharmaceuticals (car...
متن کاملFrom organic waste to biodiesel: Black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens, makes it feasible
Biodiesel is a renewable and environmentally friendly liquid fuel. However, the feedstock, predominantly crop oil, is a limited and expensive food resource which prevents large scale application of biodiesel. Development of non-food feedstocks are therefore, needed to fully utilize biodiesel’s potential. In this study, the larvae of a high fat containing insect, black soldier fly (Hermetia illu...
متن کاملEvolution of chemical and biological characterization during thermophilic composting of vegetable waste using rotary drum composter
Vegetable waste usually contains high levels of organic matter, moisture and nutrients that make the waste unsuitable for disposal in municipal landfills. Composting of vegetable waste is in practice by many urban local bodies, and therefore, it was composted along with cow dung and sawdust in a 550-L batch scale rotary drum composter. Four different trials of varying waste combinations of vege...
